Learn to Kitesurf Portugal - Beginners Kitesurf Camp

This is the package for those who have not tried kitesurfing before or just tested a couple of times. Esposende offers perfect conditions to learn kiting!

a typical day IN PORTUGAL

We start the day with a delicious breakfast at the villa. Our host will tell you about the day, the forecast and our plans. We will bike down to the kite center, where our boat will take us to the kite spot before the wind picks up. During the day, you and the other participants will be closely supervised and taught from the level you are at. Enjoy a cold beer in our living room with new friends after a long day in the sun with hard, but yet fun, work. If you want, you can join our team for dinner at one of the local restaurants in Esposende before checking out what the nightlife has to offer.

Breakfast is included in the price, and we enjoy it together at the camp. The camp kitchen is well equipped, and you can fill the fridge with your favorite lunch ingredients. If you are too tired to make dinner, you are welcome to join our organized dinners out in town. We have a selection of restaurants that we personally like that offer good, traditional Portuguese food from local producers, including their wine. You can eat a tasty meal for only 15-20 euro (including drinks). Ask for the “dinner pack” at arrival to join all our dinners and get a special discount!

  • Normal Wind strength: 15-30kts (7-15m/s)
  • Direction: NW
  • Water temperature: 18-22 degrees Celsius (depends on tide and season)
  • Seafloor: Sandy. No need for shoes.
  • Wetsuit? Yes, advisable. Surfshorts are perfect on the beach, but with the water temp and wind chill you probably want a wetsuit.

Students have 4 kite lessons, one lesson of 3 hours per day.  You are only two students on each instructor.

Throughout the week you will progress in line with the international Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO) programs.

You will start with the discovery course* that consists of Theory, safety and equipment. Setting up the kite, launching, landing, wind window, kite control etc., progress and move on to the Intermediate course* where you will start to go in the water to do body dragging, followed by your first water-starts and your first meters kiting. When you achieve all the steps in each program you continue your evolution*. Next one is the independent program* where you practice board- and kite control in the water.

*Read more about the IKO lesson program here:

http://www.ikointl.com/kiteboarder-discovery-independant-intermediate-course

Note that each persons´ progression during the week is individual, and also depends on the conditions. We will do our best to teach you on the level that you are at. This means that some people will be kiting independently in the end of the week, while others can feel that they need more lessons to feel safe and independent with the kite and the board.

Any no-wind day during the week will be converted to a FREE day and option to do other activities, such as surfing, volleyball, mountain bike tour, skateboarding, shopping in Porto etc.

INCLUDED: Breakfast – free usage of kitchen and other facilities – cleaning of room – free Internet – TV – accommodation – usage of city bike during your stay – surf or SUP board rental 2 hours each day.

NOT INCLUDED: Towels for shower and beach, lunch, dinner, optional activities.

What goal is realistic to have after the kite lessons?

This depends on each student, but normally you should know the safety and theory to continue practicing on your own. You have kited your first meters on the board. Some of you are already riding back and forward; some are practicing to ride upwind, while others might need a few more lessons to be independent enough to continue on their own. This is very individual.

Can I use the kite gear when there are no lessons?

No, kite gear is only included during the lessons. You can rent gear after you are done with your lessons, and continue practicing by your own. Your instructor needs to approve that this is safe and ok. If you are not independent enough yet to be practicing by yourself, you have the option to buy more private lessons.
