Mixing it up with the best in Bali

Our guests in Bali are in the middle of the action as the world elite competes in the WSL Corona Bali Protected at Keramas, only a couple hundred meters away from our camp Gianyar.

The Bali morning glory is sooo extra this week near our camp Gianyar; as shown here by Jordy Smith in a gorgeous drop-wallet layback, caught by camp photog @johneakerblom.

Read on for first-hand deets from the beach and a story about the universe and the law of attraction with John John Florence, Vanessa and Stina.

Guests and staff getting amongst it
Guests from both camps Canggu and Gianyar have been at the beach already to check out the event.

“The guests and I have been chilling by the pool at Komune resort watching everyone get barreled only a few meters away. It’s such an inspirational experience and it makes me super keen to surf as much as possible this summer”, said Vanessa, our camp manager in Gianyar.

Campsters hanging out, enjoying front row seats to all the action.

A surf-stoked bunch of guests from camp Canggu watched the early rounds with excitement, and are going back for more:

“I’m thrilled to see Steph (Gilmore) and the girls ripping; it makes me excited for the next few months of summer surfing, which is usually the best season in Bali” said Mathilda, camp manager in Canggu.

Stargazing at the beach
“It feels surreal that the place we call home is now the playground for the elite. The beach where we go for our morning walks, and our local restaurant, are now packed with superstar surfers”, said Vanessa.

With the world’s best surfers all gathered in the same spot it’s easy to get starstruck;
“Stina and I actually went for coffee this morning and ended up at the table next to John John Florence”, she said.

Vanessa is reluctant to provide details as to how exactly they ‘ended up’ next to The John, but it’s reasonable to assume the universe played a big part in this.

When asked if she managed to get a selfie with the golden boy, she said, “although I’m a firm believer in ‘reaching for the stars’, today I found myself stirring my coffee like a crazy person while trying to stop Stina from giggling and staring at him”, she said.

Whether you’re watching the comp when having coffee with friends, from the beach with your surf buddies or on worldsurfleague.com, we wish you all a fun event!
