The Danish National team prepping for battle in Portugal

Scandinavian surfing is gaining momentum with surfing legend & coach at Lapoint’s Surf Coaching courses, Paulo “Do Bairro” Rodrigues from Portugal recent signing with the Danish national team.
Their first international test together is the Eurosurf Junior competition in Santa Cruz, Portugal, July 20-29th.

We caught up with Danish national team manager, Christen Søndergaard, who considers the partnership with Paulo and Lapoint to be a massive scoop for Denmark.
– Paulo has the highest level of expertise and skill of any surf coach I’ve ever worked with and to have him coach our best surfers will take the team to the next level, Christen said.

This week, junior team riders Marius Aagesen Goth (shortboard) and Sebastian Olander (longboard) are in Lapoint Portugal at a coaching camp as part of their preparations.
Christen is stoked about the opportunity to hone the team’s competition mindset; “Paulo’s many years as a competitive surfer provides valuable experience that he can pass on, especially to our younger riders,” he said.
Paulo is excited about the task at hand and said it’s an excellent opportunity to further develop the young riders into (more) focused athletes.
– My vision for the future is clear, to work on the development of two essential areas; the technique and the competition, he said.

In doing so, the team has called on teammates Emilie Uttrup and Oliver Hartkopp to help drill Marius and Sebastian in competitive strategy and mentally prepare them for what to expect when the buzzer blows in Santa Cruz.
Oliver said he’s honored to be a part of the process and this strong forward drive for Danish surfing.
– Lapoint provides a fun, yet professional training ground for the Danish national team. Being able to come here and focus on our surfing in good conditions with Paulo’s coaching is everything to us,” Oliver said.

Christen also sees great value in the facilities and environment Lapoint is offering; “Lapoint has state of the art camps situated next to the best waves in the world – and in combination with the high level of training facilities, coaching and service that Lapoint offers it is an obvious choice as a partner for us,” he said.
Everyone here at Lapoint wishes the boys the best of luck in the competition and will follow the bright future of the Danish national team with great excitement.
